Charles Farris

Established in the 1840s and holding 2 royal warrants, Charles Farris Ltd is one of the UK's leading providers of high quality church supplies. The site is built on top of Plone to give the content management capabilities and ease of administration that the client required. The e-commerce system was designed specifically to fit in with the Charles Farris order process, working with unique customer account codes. Other features of the system include accommodation of multiple VAT codes and shipping price bands, and a 'repeat order' function for large account holders. Intrinsic to the design of the backend system is the ability to present content from the site with different branding, to allow the company to use the same product data with different brands for other markets.

The company enables its customers to purchase from one source a diverse range of the finest products essential to their requirements. Whilst their primary market is still church supplies, the company has steadily diversified into other areas, particularly hospitality, where their high quality handmade candles, created to any size and colour, are in high demand.

Charles Farris approached Netsight to redesign their site, seeking an accessible, easy-to-use, elegant site which was simple and efficient to maintain, whilst offering sophisticated customer ordering capabilities. The new site design was required to communicate the heritage and strict quality standards associated with the brand, with the technology underneath providing state-of-the-art functionality.

The new site offers greatly improved usability and delivers a range of features to provide a more useful and rewarding experience for the visitor. The site is built on top of Plone to give the content management capabilities and ease of administration that the brief required, customised to fit in with the client's order processing workflow. Good accessibility through best practice was engineered into the site from the ground up, using a combination of manual and automated testing and refinement.

Intrinsic to the design of the backend system is the ability to present content from the site with different branding, to allow the company to use the same product data with different brands for other markets. This is aspect of the project is currently being explored.

Netsight designed the e-commerce system specifically to fit in with the Charles Farris order process, working with unique customer account codes. The order placement system was redesigned to include a password login to provide a higher level of security, and thus greater customer confidence. Other features of the system include accomodation of multiple VAT codes and shipping price bands, and a  repeat order function for large account holders.
