The Plone Conference 2009 will be held October 28-30, 2009 in Budapest, Hungary, and will be organized by Greenfinity and Open Society Institute. The conference will be preceded with 2 days course and followed by 2 days development workshop (sprint). Over 400 experts from all over the world are expected to attend the event.

The conference will be an opportunity for users, developers, and consultant SMEs in Eastern Europe to get in contact with each other and join the international Plone community. To reinforce collaboration between Plone developers and users in the Eastern European region, Open Society Institute offers a conference participation grant for students and young professionals, focused but not limited to the region. The grant supports free admission to the conference and covers part of the traveling costs, depending on the region of the applicant. To aid the effective distribution of the grants, the organizers will contact the local Plone communities in the Eastern European and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries, and coordinate with them during the organization of the conference.

The conference will also increase visibility of Python, Zope and Plone in the region. Being the first international Open Source conference of this size in Hungary, it will also be an opportunity to promote Open Source in general. The Plone community will get in touch with young developers and designers from the region, as well as receive feedback from users and consultants.

The conference also serves as the main socializing event for members of the Plone community. The organizers will attempt to create a truly unforgettable event, offering exciting off-conference activities to let participants explore the beauty of Budapest and a taste of Eastern European culture.
