Plone: Kent Connects project makes final four in Innovation Awards

by Nicolas Bossut last modified 2008-04-18 12:01

The Kent Connects 'Portal of Portals' project has been shortlisted in the final four in the category of Best Government to Government Project in this year's GC Awards for Innovation. A central part of the Kent Connects is built on the Plone content management system.

Based on an article by Netsight

The Kable GC Awards for Innovation are the longest established accolades in the field of public sector IT in the UK.

The Kent Connects project is enabling the transformation of Kent's public services through technology. With a membership comprised of all the Kent and Medway authorities, Kent Police, and Kent Fire & Rescue Service, Kent Connects is a powerful county wide alliance of public service providers. Kent Connects has already invested in a single, county wide IT infrastructure (both technology and people) to enable partners to join up and share their service delivery mechanisms in a secure, robust and cost effective environment.

A central part of the Kent Connects project is the portal system made available to all the project partners, which is built on the Plone content management system.

Netsight were contracted to assist with the creation of software systems and processes to streamline and manage roll-out of additional portals. This simplified deployment has greatly reduced the time taken to roll out each new portal, with the project expanding over the course of the last year from an initial few portals to nearly twenty a year later.

A new homepage and a 'portal of portals' view was developed to provide an overview of activity across all portals. Netsight was also involved in the development of the new Software Audit application which enables more informed procurement of software across the county. In addition, Netsight provides a range of technical support services to the project, along with a managed hosting service.

The overall winner of the Innovation Awards will be announced on the 24th of April.
